INTRO.

Being a Modeller most my life, I wanted to make models which were as near to real life as possible, feel, look and perform like the real thing, cold to touch and warm when run. this I feel could not be achieved with a "shop bought kit" "scratch built" over a period of 2 years and has taken 2000 hours to research, plan, design, draw and develop into this excellent model which was completed in May 1991. this was my first model which I used only hand tool, a Black and Decker drill, sweat and tears.

ALVIS STALWART

This my first 1/8 scale model is an exact replica of the FV622 Stalwart seen in service in 1964 with B Squadron 1st Royal Tank Regiment in Germany where I served.

FACTS

Made of Aluminium Alloy, weighing 40lbs (18kg) and measuring 31ins (794mm) long,13ins (328mm) wide and 12ins (316) high. The model is powered by an OS 32 air-cooled piston engine, originally designed for model helicopters, which develops 1.25 bhp at 16,000 rpm with a centrifugal clutch, the entire transmission has been designed and built by me. The total-loss gearbox with 4 forward and 2 reverse gears is coupled by 1 layshaft to 3 differential gearboxes. The drive is then taken by 6 half-shafts to 6 fully independently coil sprung and oil-filled shock absorbers road wheels fitted with disc-brakes This gives the model a maximum road speed 10 mph.

HISTORY

The FV622 Alvis Stalwart was developed by Alvis as an extension of the highly successful 600 Series range of vehicles: Saracen, Saladin and Salamander. It is a high mobility load carrier (HMLC) with a load capacity of 5 tons and a towed equipment capacity of 6 tons. The Stalwart can be fitted with a 3 ton hydraulic crane, is fully amphibious and is powered by a Rolls Royce engine (B81) making a reliable, versatile vehicle capable of many tasks. The Stalwart has seen service with British Army and has also been used by the Swedish Army and Austrian Army because it is a tough, high mobility vehicle with amphibious capabilities.

Mike

I am looking for scale plans of the Stalwart as I would like to produce a 1/72 scale master for casting.

Do you have anything I could use?

Regards
